HEAVENLY LAKE TAHOE
Here on the South Shore of Lake Tahoe the most easily accessible Resort is Heavenly Lake Tahoe. You have the California side and the Nevada side. It's like having two Resorts in One. Yes...Two for One. Here again you pick and choose which side you want to ski first. Hum.
With world class slopes, unbelievable tree skiing/boarding, absolutely the most Heavenly views you could possibly even think of, what more would you ask for in a World Class Resort? You can see Carson Valley from the Nevada side and the Tahoe Basin from the California side. It's Incredibly beautiful. Especially when you wake up to fresh powder and all you have to do it practically just go "up the street". It's Amazing. It's just Heavenly.
They boast the most in snowmaking capabilities in the North America making at least the mountain 65% to 70% skiable. And they proved that in the winter of 2011-2012. It was a very lean year for snow and they did an incredible job. The locals and what tourist showed up had the mountain to themselves!!
Lots of terrain for all walks of life here at Heavenly. Want to do what the locals do? Don't forget to check out the California Base Lodge where parking is free for those of you that want to drive your own car. Take Ski Run Boulevard and follow the cars, but don't forget to stop by and pick up some equipment before you head to the mountain. We are seven blocks up Ski Run on the right, next to La Familia Restaurant.
Sierra-at-Tahoe is another Resort which is only about a 20 minute drive from the South Shore, on a clear road day, is Sierra at Tahoe. It's only about 12 miles from South Shore but when conditions change the drive time changes. This Resort has a lot to offer in it's own perfect way. It is known for it's Family oriented style. They have decks outside with picnic tables that surround the resort so that you can bring your own lunch for your family if you choose to do so. It's comfortable and clean and great views of the ski runs. But you can also enjoy the great food they serve there and the bar is pretty happening too. Nothing like a cold beer on the deck chatting with friends and enjoying the views. And weekends there always seems to have something happening going on.
Sierra at Tahoe is a beginners haven. A Safe haven. If you are just learning to ski or board-'Sugar and Spice' run....ah so nice, is a 2 mile run from the top of the mountain down to the bottom. Great run for the beginners crowd and for the whole family to shoot it together. But before you take that run you beginners, be sure to practice. It has a quad that accesses it and you can warm up quickly and sharpen your skills.
It's also a great Tahoe Resort for those that ride everyday. For snowboarders, expert and backcountry skiers the back side of the resort is open and accessible to those that seek the thrill. Huckleberry Canyon Cat Tours could help you with that too. And when it snows be sure to look for their terrain parks. Be sure to know where they are and watch the fun if you can't join in or don't want to join in.
And now, in Sierra-at-Tahoe style, they have opened Burton Riglet Park designed for those children as young as 3 who want to learn how to snowboard. What more could you expect from a class act, over the top, fun by everyone, Snow Resort! Yes, they even have a tubing hill with two rope tows. How much fun can you have????
